Metroid Dread: Is it still possible?

Metroid Dread was announced in the June 2005 in an issue of Game Informer. Apparently, Dread is a 2-d side scrolling Metroid game for the Nintendo DS whose events take place after Metroid Fusion.

There is a message in Metroid Prime 3 that says “Experiment status report update: Metroid project ‘Dread’ is nearing the final stages of completion..”. If this is just a trick from Retro Studios, or if it’s a hint about Metroid Dread is still unknown.

I really hope this is real, it sounds awesome.

Here we see a Pirate Log from Metroid Prime 1, that mentions Hunter Metroid ds (Probably referring to Metroid Prime Hunters)
